2021 Garbage Pail Kids “Oh the Horrible!” Set Population Established

Love them, hate them or just plain think they’re garbage. Topps has brought back another launch of the zany Garbage Pail Kids cards — 2021 Garbage Pail Kids x Comic Con “Oh the Horrible!” set. Topps released the population information after the October 10th deadline for orders was reached. The total number of sets sold according to Topps was 1,741.

Whether this print run of 1,741 is a success or not may depend on how much you are into these collectibles. The cards from the 1980s can be worth thousands of dollars. What the future value of these newer limited edition GPK horror set theme will be is something that is not yet known. Topps has released sets of these cards in the past, and eBay currently has individual cards, packs of cards and some graded cards under the “Horrible” editions from recent prior years.

What sets this one apart from other GPK sets is that this set features five exclusive horror movie themed characters. These are based on some of the most popular horror films of the modern era, assuming the late 1900s (80s) is still modern. Sold for a limited time only according to Topps, and included with each set will be a pack of 10 stickers.

With the popularity of the affectionately understood filth of the Garbage Pail empire it would be undeniable to not see these as collectible.

The cards were available for purchase from Topps.com on October 7, 2021 through October 10, 2021. The cards retailed for $19.99 per pack. Here is a checklist of the cards available from the Topps website:

Collectors Dashboard evaluates collectibles as an alternative class. Whether or not the new issues of Garbage Pail Kids cards will count among high-end collectibles remains to be seen. Those cards from the 1980s come with astronomical price tags in perfect condition.

It is undeniable that many collectors and investors have been competing for the exact same asset. The price of GPK cards probably could not have reached the heights they have seen without at least some involvement from investors. And unlike collectors with a deep passion, the investors are buying with the hope of only making a profit.

Graphic images may be controversial to some collectors. The interest collectors have in these characters from the 1980s is undeniable, even with the admission that many collectors just do not understand the attraction to these cards. It is not possible to visit a large collectibles show like National in Chicago and not see dealers and collectors with GPK cards. Hopefully you are one of the ones who bought one of the 1,741 sets sold by Topps.
