83% Sell-Through Rate at Mecum Houston Collector Car Auction

Everything is bigger in Texas! So the saying goes. The conclusion of Mecum’s high-end car auction March 31-April 2, 2022 in Houston Texas had some very rare and unique vehicles highlighted that sold. Over 1,000 cars were walked past eager collectors, The cars profiled were without estimates but the descriptions captured interest for serious collectors.

Collectors Dashboard evaluates high-end collectibles as an alternative asset class. This means collectible cars are attracting the same capital that could have been invested into stocks or bonds. Many rare and high-end vehicles now cost hundreds of thousands of dollars (or much more).

Mecum had noted that nearly 180 vehicles from The Triple J Ranch Auto Collection were offered at no reserve. According to Mecum, the 1,000 cars available had an 83% sell through rate. Owners can pull cars from the auction for various reasons. Here were the top 10 sales of the auction as compiled by Mecum:

LOT S95: 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible, LS3/525 HP, 6-Speed; Sold for $203,500.

LOT F162.1: 1991 Ferrari Testarossa, 4.9L, 5-Speed; Sold for $203,500.

LOT F161.1: 1986 Porsche 911 Turbo, 3.3L, 4-Speed; Sold for $189,750.

LOT S76: 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, 6.2L/808 HP, 28 Miles; Sold for $187,000.

LOT S136.1: 2017 Ford F250 Super Duty Pickup, 6.7L Diesel, 22,868 Miles; Sold for $187,000.

The star of the auction was a 2020 Ford Carroll Shelby Signature Series. Listed as Lot F126 the car is 1 of 50 produced and featured interior embroidery unique to the limited series. The car sold for $126,500.00. The star and face of the show was led by the Carroll Shelby name.
