Are Collectors Ready for the New Garbage Pail Kids “Oh the Horrible!” Set?

Love them, hate them or just plain think they’re garbage. Topps has brought back another launch of the zany Garbage Pail Kids cards — 2021 Garbage Pail Kids x Comic Con “Oh the Horrible!” set.

What sets this one apart from other GPK sets is that this set features five exclusive horror movie themed characters. These are based on some of the most popular horror films of the modern era, assuming the late 1900s (80s) is still modern. Sold for a limited time only according to Topps, and included with each set will be a pack of 10 stickers.

With the popularity of the affectionately understood filth of the Garbage Pail empire it would be undeniable to not see these as collectible.

The cards are available for purchase from Topps.com on October 7, 2021 through October 10, 2021. The cards retail for $19.99 per pack. Here is a checklist of the cards available from the Topps website:

  • 1A Massacred MICHAEL
  • 2A Chopped CHUCKY
  • 3A Chris KRAMPUS
  • 4A ASHER Scratcher
  • 5A TERRY Fier
  • 1B Carved CARSON
  • 2B Stitched UPTON
  • 3B HOLLY Spirit
  • 4B FREDDY Fingers
  • 5B Split Apart ART

Garbage Pail Kids 2021

Collectors Dashboard evaluates collectibles as an alternative class. Whether or not the new issues of Garbage Pail Kids cards will count among high-end collectibles remains to be seen. Those cards from the 1980s come with astronomical price tags in perfect condition.

It is undeniable that many collectors and investors have been competing for the exact same asset. The price of GPK cards probably could not have reached the heights they have seen without at least some involvement from investors. And unlike collectors with a deep passion, the investors are buying with the hope of only making a profit.

According to Garbage Pail News, sets of these cards that are bought by collectors at the NYCC will receive bonus cards. The sets will only be on the Topps website for three days. After the three days Topps will reveal the print run of the cards, similar to the Topps Now releases.

Graphic images may be controversial to some collectors. The interest collectors have in these characters from the 1980s is undeniable, even with the admission that many collectors just do not understand the attraction to these cards. It is not possible to visit a large collectibles show like National in Chicago and not see dealers and collectors with GPK cards.

Collectors Dashboard will be following the populations of these cards when they are announced from Topps.
