Garbage Pail Kids Meet Street Art in Taki 183 Collaboration

Newsflash from the New York City Street Art Scene! Taki 183, the Greek-American graffitist, has announced a partnership with Toops for the Garbage Pale Kids. The effort is being called Beyond The Streets Series 2 Garbage Pail Kids Box. The artist made the announcement himself from his Instagram page taki183.

Forget about Nasty Nick here for a moment or two. This blends street art and GPK.

Here’s what the post detailed:

“I am excited to announce I have been immortalized into a Garbage Pail Kid by the legendary @Topps GPK illustrator @joesimko_nyc for the BEYOND THE STREETS Series 2 Garbage Pail Kids Box. It’s a limited-edition collection of 83 cards featuring 26 fellow artists. Cards are sold blindly by the box, each box contains 20 packs of 8 for a wild mix. Collectors Dashboard evaluates high-end collectibles as an alternative asset class. This means collectibles are attracting the same capital that could have been invested into stocks or bonds. Many collectibles now cost thousands of dollars (or much more). Collectors with a passion to own a collectible for years frequently have to compete directly against investors whose only desire is to make a profit in the future. This would hold true for at least some of the higher-end GPK cards.

The Instagram page ntwk is a media page on Instagram and their tag line is Shop. Watch. Connect. The Beyond The Streets portal for the app download is displayed clearly at the top of the page. With 361,000 followers, competition for one of the cards should be expected to be heavy.

Collectors Dashboard has written about Taki183 and his founding role in New York City Street Art. With the popularity of Garbage Pail Kids trading cards by Topps we are excited to report populations and grading information of this limited edition card. With the quickness of his graffiti application and the abundance of things signed it should be expected that some of these cards will get signed, and some of the signed cards will be professionally graded.
