Is This the Coolest NFL Rookie Patch Card Ever?

Let’s admit it! The Hobby is obsessed with rookie patch autos, rookie patch cards and other limited serial number cards. The reason is simple — you can’t ever have 30,000 of the same exact card in a PSA 10 or BGS 9.5 competing for the same buyers and sellers in Gem Mint condition. It is now pretty easy for collectors and sports card investors to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a single card for players who have not even seen their careers play out yet.

Collectors Dashboard has seen many of these extremely low population (or 1/1) modern era cards come up for auction. What may be one of the most interesting NFL targeted rookie patch cards is nearing the end of its auction. Goldin.co is featuring lot #1320 as the 2020 Panini National Treasures “Treasure Chest” #ROOK Logo Tag Rookie Card (#1/1). This unique card featuring 24 rookie stars from the 2020 NFL Draft — Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, Justin Jefferson, Jordan Love, Tua, Chase Claypool, CeeDee Lamb and many more.

The card is graded BGS NM-MT 8 and only one of the attributed sub-grades (see below) held the score from being higher. (Image from Goldin.co)

2020 National Treasures NFL Rookie Patch 1/1

Some collectors or sports investors might want to see an autograph angle here, but frankly it would be next to impossible due to size and space limitations. The description from Goldin’s page included:

This unique Panini National Treasures “Treasure Chest” debut-year collectible features 24 players drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft… The card features twelve swatches of material containing the Nike Swoosh logo, and twelve swatches containing the NFL Shield logo. This one-of-a-kind card is serial-numbered “1/1.”

As for the overall grade, the card’s BGS 8 (Near Mint to Mint condition) condition report:

  • Centering: 9,
  • Corners: 7.5,
  • Edges: 8.5,
  • Surface: 9.

Collectors Dashboard wants to track the life of this card in particular. It’s a stunning card with a slew of young men that may dominate the NFL over the next decade. And the population of 1/1 makes this easy to track — at least if the sales of this card in the future occur through auction houses, eBay or other trackable venues outside of private transactions and card shows.

As of this time, the bid of $4,772 (after 13 bids) would be $5,726 after the buyer’s premium before any shipping and handling fees and before any applicable taxes. UPDATE: THIS LOT SOLD FOR $9,326 AFTER THE BUYER’s PREMIUM AND AFTER 19 BIDS (image below).

Any guesses on what this unique rookie patch card will ultimately sell for?

There are always at least some questions about that patches and tags used in cards of this sort. It might not be as transparent of a point here without noting that. And that said, can any sports card collector who is into the patch and logo cards not think this is visually one of the best looking presentations?
