Jackie Robinson Autograph Cards and Signed Ball Selling for High Premiums

Sports collectors have paid handsome premiums for vintage Jackie Robinson baseball cards in recent years. The graded examples can come at a large premium. What is not so common is to find Jackie Robinson cards that have been autographed by Jackie Robinson himself.

The 2021 National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago (Rosemont) featured many auction houses and card dealers. Hundreds to be exact. One auction house that was present was Iconic Auctions, and they had a major auction that was ending on Saturday, July 31, 2021. Iconic had many autographed Jackie Robinson items like a baseball, index cards, photos, a letter and so on, but the auction house also had multiple signed Jackie Robinson baseball cards up for grabs.

Collectors Dashboard evaluates high-end collectibles as an alternative asset class. These collectibles compete for the same capital as stocks, bonds and even property. Some of the auctions ended with sales prices above $10,000 and even above $20,000. That’s the size of an investment even if it was a die-hard collector rather than an investor buying the items.

Collectors Dashboard has pulled from that auction to see the results and the autographed card prices were impressive. Here are some of the Robinson autographed items we tracked (price includes buyer’s premium) from the full results of Jackie Robinson cards and memorabilia:

  • Jackie Robinson Exceptionally Fine Single-Signed Vintage ONL Baseball (JSA LOA) with a starting bid of $5,000.00 that sold for $25,703.00.

For those collectors who missed out on Jackie Robinson’s autographed memorabilia and signed cards, eBay still has many signed items by Jackie Robinson. Other auction houses will also have signed Jackie Robinson memorabilia come up for auction if the sellers believe these prices will hold or rise further.
