Logan Paul’s World Record $5.2+ Million Pikachu Illustrator

Logan Paul may have had some negative box-break news after his Pokemon/G.I. Joe cards fiasco. He has apparently moved on. The wrestler and media personality now holds a Guinness World Records title for the highest priced Pokemon trading card ever sold at a private sale.

Logan Paul appeared in the ring this last weekend at WrestleMania 38 showing off a diamond laden necklace holding a PSA grade 10 Pikachu Illustrator card with an estimated value of $5,275,000.00 The trading card was swinging from his neck as he entered the arena for WrestleMania. The backstory behind the card and the transaction is an unusual acquisition. According to the Guinness World Records site:

The card was purchased by Paul in Dubai on 22 July 2021, breaking the record for most expensive Pokémon trading card sold at a private sale… To obtain the PSA Grade 10 Pikachu Illustrator card, Paul exchanged a PSA Grade 9 Pikachu Illustrator card worth $1,275,000 that he had purchased from renowned sports card collector Matt Allen in Como, Italy… This Grade 9 card plus $4,000,000 equalled the cost of the pristine Grade 10 Pikachu Illustrator card.

The Pikachu Illustrator is one of the rarest and most highly sought after Pokemon cards for collectors. The reported numbers show that just 39 examples had been given to Illustration contest winners back in 1998. Of those, this is the only example which has the perfect PSA 10 grade.

If records are made to be broken, what record will be set next?
