MLB Rookie/Prospect Card Prices on the Rampage!

Everyone knows about speculating in stocks. Speculating in hot young baseball prospects and rookie cards is another form of speculation entirely. In 2022, the alternative asset class of sports collectibles is seeing continued record prices for players who are both the greatest in their sports and those who are emerging hot prospects. This is happening despite a shaky economy and despite ups and downs in tradition equity and bond asset classes, and even despite the spillover risks from Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine.

A fresh communication from Goldin.co is showing that speculation in the MLB’s top prospects and rookies is on fire. The company has not referred to this as speculation of course, but paying thousands and thousands of dollars for rookie and pre-rookie cards of players who are not even fully established players with long track records absolutely falls into the equivalent of speculation in emerging stocks.

Collectors Dashboard evaluates high-end collectibles as an alternative asset class. In this case, young MLB prospects and rookies are attracting the same capital that could have just as easily been invested into stocks or bonds. These prices will prove it.

Before looking below, we would remind readers that not all young hot rookies and MLB prospects (and not even all rookies of the year) pan out into solid careers. Just look at our views on Joe Charboneau and Barbero Garbey because these players had all of the same great stories behind them, but that was a long time ago.
