Rare Kenner Prototype Boba Fett Toy Shatters His Own Sales Record

Well, for Hake’s sake. This is something that should be heard about from Hake’s Auction #232 and should raise some eyebrows for Star Wars fans. With a new Boba Fett series coming on the heels of the well-received Mandalorian series, the sky might be the limit for Boba Fett merchandise in the Star Wars universe.

Hake’s recently completed a sale of many Star Wars and other historical items, but the sale that stood out the most was a Boba Fett Rocket-firing prototype action figure. The action figure is from Kenner’s line of 1979 Star Wars toys, and the $20,000.00 minimum bid went to $140,000.00 before the bidder’s premium took the auction close-out price up to $165,200.00.

Collectors Dashboard evaluates collectibles as an alternative asset class. It is without any doubt that high-end toys fit within that motif that blends collecting and investing. After all, this prototype’s prior record was $112,926 a year earlier. It is also without question that collectors with a deep passion to own an asset are directly competing with investors who simply want to sell for a profit in the future.

The Boba Fett prototype has been graded 8.5 by AFA and the toy also came with a with Collectible Investment Brokerage (CIB) certificate of authenticity.

Hake’s also saw a significant haul from several other Star Wars items, shown directly from the Hake’s results that came in above the $10,000 price. These were the price after the bidder’s premium, as follows:

  • STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK – ACTION DISPLAY STAND AFA 75 Q-EX+/NM for $36,301.81

The Boba Fett toy prototype was the second highest grossing item for Hake’s Auction #232, losing only to a 1999 Pokemon Shadowless Holographic uncut proof sheet, which had 7 of the prized Charizard cards. The Boba Fett estimate (valuation code) had been set at $100,000 to $200,000 and its final price after the bidder’s premium was $234,171.00.
