Taking 1900-1919 Cards to the 2021 National Sports Collectors Convention: Cobb, McGraw, Cicotte, M. Brown

The 2021 National Sports Collectors Convention is about to launch in Chicago. I am personally looking forward to seeing and getting reacquainted with many of the national card dealers, vendors and service providers that I have known over the years. I am also looking forward to meeting a whole cadre of new entrants in the sports collectibles industry.

Collectors Dashboard will be a visitor at the National in 2021 rather than as an exhibitor. Life post-pandemic has delivered some unplanned surprises, but as they say — “That’s life!”

I wanted to share some cards I plan to bring for trading, selling, or to auction. These are from my personal collection and some are cards I just want to sell. Others are cards I want to use to trade up or trade down in grades or for other cards. And a few of the cards I like and want to keep but for whatever reason they are in the “I don’t know…” category of cards that are there for grabs under the right conditions.

Collectors Dashboard evaluates collectibles as an alternative asset class. In short, collectibles are attracting the same capital that could have just as easily been invested into stocks, bonds, mutual funds or real estate. Many collectibles now cost thousands of dollars (or much more, even $100K to well over $1M). Perhaps the main aspect for collectibles as an alternative asset class is that collectors with a passion to own an asset are having to compete directly against investors whose only desire is to make a profit in the future.

1916 M101-5 Eddie Cicotte “Blank Back” SGC 80/6 EX/NM that looks stunning and a 1913 T200 Fatima Teams – White Sox that is a PSA 1 example.

1911 T205 Mordecai Brown (Piedmont) SGC 60/5 EX that looks better than the grade.

Two “Black Swamp Find” 1910 E98 John McGraw – Green SGC 86/7.5 NM+ and Red SGC 84/7 NM and both are in stellar condition and 111 years old.

One card I must part with that I prefer not to but it needs a T216 KOTTON collector who can appreciate regardless of the set’s overall very weak condition. This is just graded BVG “AUTHENTIC” because the card is not entirely whole.

Here you go.
