The 2022 Topps Series 1 release has now been on the market for roughly its tenth day. This set is really all about Wander Franco and Collectors Dashboard wanted to go above and beyond just the recent sales. We already covered the first 72 hours of crazy sales, but now we wanted to look back over time and look at which of the Wander Franco cards have sold for the most money since then on an absolute basis.

So… What have been the most expensive card sales of all Wander Franco cards in general? This search did not include just the last 10 days. It also was not just limited to eBay. And we absolutely did not just focus on the 2022 Topps Series 1 release. We expanded out into the primary auction houses and looked into PSA data for all Wander Franco card sales.

Despite no deal reached with the MLB/MLBPA and despite the warfare occurring in the Ukraine, the trading card community still seems to be nuts over these cards.

HOW TOTAL ROOKIE MANY CARDS ARE THERE?

We have now seen estimates and calculations that there may have been some 750,000 or more of each card produced in the 2022 Topps Series 1 release. The reality is that there is absolutely no way to know how many Topps Series 1 cards have actually been opened from packs and cases, how many are being submitted to PSA, SGC, BGS, CGC and others. And there is no way to know how many have arrived and are in transit or being prepped to be sent out for grading.

Collectors Dashboard wanted to put together some basic statistics about what has been sold on eBay and what has been shown elsewhere. The list includes data from PSA, eBay, Goldin, PWCC, Heritage, and so on.

We have already seen 1 PSA 10 of the Wander Franco #215 from the 2022 Topps Series 1 sell and it commanded a premium that is frankly hard to explain. As for the total 2022 Topps Baseball Parallels count, there are 17 parallels covering each of the 330 cards on its checklist. Clear has another 100 cards and the Advanced Stats group is for standard player cards. Beckett has released a detailed Parallels Guide to show odds and that may at least provide a number of non-base cards if you can back into a real print run count for base cards.

We also pulled the 2019 Bowman Prospects Chrome data on card #100 of Wander Franco. This already has a graded population of 14,821 PSA graded cards without “Q” and “+” in the grades. Of those, there were 3,719 graded as PSA 9 and 10,864 graded as the PSA 10 GEM MINT. Where this card gets more difficult is that there are 17 additional #100 cards of Wander Franco spread out among the various Refractor and various Shimmer variations and there were over 900 of those graded examples of those cards without counting “Q” and “+” designations.

We would also add in that there is also the Topps MLB Living Set Card #495 of Wander Franco that is styled after the 1953 Topps baseball set. There is no way to know how many of these cards will have been in the listed print run because Topps says “Print runs revealed after sales window expires.” Individually this card is $7.99, but the bulk/dealer option of 20 cards comes to $74.99 (about $3.75 per card). This product was made available from Feb. 23, 2022 and expires on March 02, 2022.

THE MOST EXPENSIVE WANDER FRANCO CARD EVER IS…

Goldin.co was that the highest listed sale to date. Ken Goldin confirmed via email that this was the highest recorded public sale. It was in the Goldin Elite Auction Ending May 22-23 for lot #452. It was a 2019 Bowman Chrome Prospect Autographs Red Refractor #WF Wander Franco Signed Rookie Card (#3/5) graded PSA GEM MT 10, and the card sold for $193,200.00 after 25 bids (image below at Goldin.co).

The PWCC Marketplace has seen many Wander Franco cards sell in its weekly and premiere auctions, some in the five-figure levels.

• PWCC sold a 2019 Bowman Chrome Gold Shimmer Refractor Wander Franco Rookie AUTO /50 BGS 9.5 for $13,000 on Dec. 17, 2021
• PWCC sold a 2019 Bowman Chrome Blue Refractor Wander Franco Rookie ’10’ AUTO /150 PSA 10 (listed as PSA population 1 of 2) for $11,355 on July 18, 2021.
• PWCC Marketplace sold a 2019 Bowman Chrome Refractor Wander Franco Rookie Auto DNA 10 /499 PSA 10 listed with a PSA population as just 1 of 3 for $10,200 on Feb. 20, 2022.
• PWCC sold a 2019 Bowman Chrome Atomic Refractor Wander Franco Rookie AUTO /100 PSA 10 (listed as PSA population 1 of 11 for $9,000 on Dec. 17, 2021.

HERITAGE’S TOP SALE

Heritage Auctions sold a 2019 Bowman Chrome Prospects Autograph Wander Franco Speckle Refractor #CPA-WF BGS Gem Mint 9.5, Auto 10 (Serial Numbered 284) for $2,280 on Feb. 4, 2021.

EBAY HAS ALMOST COUNTLESS SALES

On eBay, one PSA 10 of the 2022 Topps Series 1 Wander Franco #215 was listed as the “First Ever Graded!” example in the description. This specific card sold for $2,075.00 after 42 bids on Feb. 21, 2022. At 2:20 PM EST on Feb. 19, 2022 it was at $730.00 after 12 bids (w/ 127 watchers) and at 12:30 on that same day it had 92 watchers and 7 bids with a then-current $610.00 price with 2 days and 6 hours to end. That card was given a PSA certification number of 63686766 and that implied that PSA was nearing 64 million total PSA certification numbers in all-time stats. A look at the PSA certification verification site at the card-facts confirmed the data presented.

We then looked at the “SOLD” eBay listings, and admittedly this only goes back 90 days at this point. We removed the “completed” listings from the sold lots and looked at the auction formats and each auction had to have more than just 1 bid. We chose to do this because those prices are known and with more than 1 bid it is at least assumed it wasn’t another bid. There have to be higher “Buy It Now” prices but many dealers overlook those cards (unless it is a reference for their own selling price). These were the primary eBay auction sales seen:

• Dec 19, 2021 — 2019 Wander Franco Bowman Super Refractor Auto 1/1 Sterling sold for $27,000.00 after 74 bids.
• Feb 22, 2022 — 2019 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractor Wander Franco RC Rookie AUTO 13/50 (PACK FRESH) sold for $15,099.00 after 58 bids.
• Jan 18, 2022 — 2019 Bowman Chrome Speckle Refractor Wander Franco RC Rookie AUTO /299 PSA 10 sold for $7,077.00 after 59 bids.
• Jan 3, 2022 — 2019 Bowman Chrome WANDER FRANCO Auto Green Shimmer /99 PSA 10 sold for $6,775.32 after 34 bids (from Canada, plus $310.64 shipping).
• Feb 16, 2022 — 2019 Bowman Chrome Orange Refractor Wander Franco RC Rookie 21/25 PSA 10 sold for $6,978.00 after 66 bids.

Lastly on eBay auctions, we wanted to get a handle for how many of the 2022 Topps (presumably all Series 1) Wander Franco cards were selling. There was not a way to filter out the boxes, packs and lots that had “Wander Franco” in the description but a manual search on sales above $10.00 and only in “Auction Only” back to Feb. 16, 2022. That result showed 2,152 sales results so far using that criteria. Using the same criteria but allowing for “All Listings” that includes “Buy It Now (or Best Offer)” and just the “Buy It Now” all of a sudden left a massive number of 5,280 sold items.

Elsewhere on eBay, the BUY IT NOW (or Best Offer) category is one category that we only mention as offers but not actual sales because they haven’t occurred, and the seller might just be fishing for bids that might not even be close to the numbers. These were the top three offers in that category:

That’s it on the top Wander Franco card sales data to-date. We do admit that there may be other sales that have gone off at higher prices than what have seen or which were privately negotiated transactions for the more rare cards. Many auctions are still pending. One thing is for sure — the graded population of Wander Franco cards from PSA, SGC, BGS and others is literally about to explode higher.
