Topps’ Tribute to Star Wars and Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month is the month of March. And in the middle of it, March 8th was International Women’s Day. We also know that women have made a significant impact in the Star Wars franchise. Topps has come up with an interesting way to honor the women of Star Wars. The official title is 2022 Topps Star Wars: The Galaxy’s Most Powerful Women.

This may not be a traditional coverage by Collectors Dashboard but it is one we will be tracking closely. The set of the most powerful women in Star Wars is 12 cards (see checklist below). This is certainly not the Princess Leia Organa “rookie card” so to speak from the original blue issue of Topps in 1997, nor is it the black border issue by Wonder Bread in 1977. For these to have value in the future, you have to understand that all such modern cards must be kept in pristine condition.

Collectors Dashboard usually evaluates high-end collectibles as an alternative asset class. This is definitely not a high-end collectible as of now, but it is a collectible that should appeal to a broader base of both Star Wars collectors and parents who may want to buy these for their own kids. And because Topps keeps these up-to-date release open for order during a window, this is also a collectible where Star Wars collectors will not have to compete directly against investors who are looking to buy assets solely to make a profit ahead.

Topps has indicated that this release will be available from March 8, 2022 to March 15, 2022. They are base cards and packs sell for $24.99 on the Topps website. It comes with free shipping and will ship 14 to 21 business days after the clock expires.

Each 12-card pack will be priced at $24.99 individually, but there are discounts for larger orders. Ordering 5 or 10 sets brings the implied a price per pack down closer to $22.40 per pack. And, of course, having a larger pack order count should also imply a greater chance of getting the parallels or inserts (see below).

The good news is that some of the packs may end up with more than what the checklist indicates. Included in the packs, according to Topps, are randomly inserted parallels numbered Red /25, Purple /10, and Gold /1! Topps also noted that the packs that come with parallels will contain 13 cards rather than just the 12 cards. Images are from Topps.

Here are the 12 women that are included in the release:

2. Rey

3. Shaak Ti

4. Padmé Amidala

5. Ahsoka Tano

6. Sabine Wren

7. Jannah

The month of March is about women’s history and this release by Topps is the opportunity for collectors to collect at the ground level without having to give up a lightsaber because investors are involved.
