Topps Truck Tour, National Baseball Card Day, MLB All-Stars, Field of Dreams

If it seems like there is a “National Day” for just about anything, maybe there really is. August 7, 2021 is being set as National Baseball Card Day, according to Topps. And while 2020 was a year of lock-downs, 2021 is not the first year for a National Baseball Card Day.

There are some other events that baseball card collectors will also want to consider.

Topps will be giving away packs of cards in hobby shops around the United States, but it also plans to give away packs at participating baseball parks. While the list of hobby shops and participating baseball stadiums has not yet been released, Topps is also planning a month-long nationwide pop-up truck tour which kicks off on Friday, July 9 in Denver for MLB’s All-Star Week with the tour kicking off at Mike’s Stadium Sportscards.

The pop-up truck tour will end at the Field of Dreams game in Deyersville, IA on August 12.

Topps further noted that onsite teams in each location will host trivia contests and cornhole games as part of the truck tour. Free baseball cards and Topps swag will also be given away, and fans will be able to take a photo in a life-size Topps card frame which will allow them to effectively become their own baseball card. Topps celebrated National Baseball Card Day with a pop-up Topps truck in New York City.

On a separate note, TOPPS NOW will have an expanded 2021 card set to commemorate the 2021 MLB All-Stars for those who like to collect modern era baseball cards on a hyperactive basis. The TOPPS NOW set will be a release of an 18-card bundle. The list of topics and the list of players has not been determined, at least for all but one of the cards.

The TOPPS NOW 18-card set will cost $29.99 for one set, or an additional $240.00 to add 10 more sets. While Topps did not show the list of players yet, Angels’ pitcher and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani is shown on the cover of the offering. With Ohtani being baseball’s hot ticket, and that small feat of being a batter and pitcher, oh and being in the home run derby, Ohtani’s card was a no-brainer to be there. Will the Ohtani card be the only card of him in there? That remains to be seen.
