Turning Collector Cars Into NFTs

Are non-fungible tokens going to dominate in the world of collectibles? That remains to be seen. What has already been seen is that almost anything can be turned into an NFT. We have seen athletes launch virtual cards and videos as NFTs, and there are even NFT’s that focus on cars. An announcement was made by CurrencyWorks Inc. that Motoclub has unveiled the Barrett-Jackson Houston 2021 Collector Series.

While thinking of digital images of cars as an NFT may seem new, apparently it is not. According to a news release, this new set of NFT collectibles is the follow-up product line to the Las Vegas 2021 Collector Series. The press release also said that the Las Vegas series sold out late in 2021.

The Houston Series will be comprised of three pack drops. The Motoclub.io website shows a Houston 2021 Series Elite Edition dropping on January 29 & 29, followed by the Houston 2021 Series Premier Pack dropping on February 8.

The news release indicates that each Premier Pack will contain an assortment of NFTs based on sales highlights from Barrett-Jackson’s inaugural Houston Auction. That auction was held in September 2021 and included the Porsche 928 from the Risky Business movie. The NFTs in the “Premier Pack” are listed below:

  • 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Convertible
  • 1972 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM Custom Coupe “Code Red”
  • 1993 Toyota Supra Premier Edition Twin Turbo
  • 2021 Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock

Sales of these cars will be represented by 3 high-res digital images and 1 video, with each pack including 4 random NFTs from the Premier tier. A total of 16 NFTs can be collected, and each Premier Pack will be priced at $25 per pack.

The Motoclub.io website also noted that the Ricky Business Porsche 928 will be dropping January 28 & 29 and they are showing this car from behind (see below).
