Coins4Christmas and FreeCoinDay Usher 2021 Holiday Coin Collector Cheers

The American Numismatic Association is creating new collectors this holiday season by kicking off the Coins4Christmas movement. This is also a build up for Saturday, December 18, 2021 which is nothing less than Free Coin Day. Holiday shoppers paying with cash during the week of December 13 to 18, according to the American Numismatic Association, will be able to find collectible coins added by the ANA, by the coin collecting community, and by participating coin dealers. Some coin shops will promote business by giving a free coin to collectors that visit their store front.

Collectors Dashboard evaluates high-end collectibles as an alternative asset class. This means collectibles are attracting the same capital that could have been invested into stocks or bonds. Many collectibles now cost thousands of dollars (or much more).

What must be understood according to the press release is that how coin shops participate, including what they give away, and how they promote their giving is up to each shop owner.

No specific coins are listed that will be found but the image used features a Type 2 Reverse Indian Head Nickel with a full horn visible and a San Francisco “S” mint mark beneath the buffalo, which is not a terrible coin to find in change. Collectors Dashboard looks forward to following along in the events of the week.

According to the press release:

Collectors nationwide are encouraged to join the fun and participate during the week in a few different ways.

Leave rare and collectible coins as tips in public places and gift them to unsuspecting strangers in places like malls and grocery stores.

Drop collectible coins in a Salvation Army collections kettle.

Encourage family and friends to use coins as stocking stuffers and gifts.
