Do You Buy Michael Jordan’s Boxer Shorts, Or Andre The Giant’s Jockstrap?

Some collectors like to buy some rather unique personal items that once belonged to famous athletes and celebrities. Jockstraps and rather used boxer shorts qualify as personal items, and then some. After the sale of Andre The Giant’s jockstrap into fractional ownership, an announcement for Michael Jordan’s heavily used boxer shorts doesn’t sound that out of the ordinary. This begs a question – should you buy Michael Jordan’s boxer shorts or Andre the Giant’s jockstrap?

When the announcement for Michael Jordan’s heavily used boxer shorts as described in Leland Auctions original listing, the first thought must be a gym smell. Beyond gym smell the second thing noticed must be that the item does include a laundry tag. Heavily Used is an official description and many Michael Jordan collectors must have a desire to learn more.

Andre The Giant’s Jockstrap is massive. For an athlete that needed an entire six pack to feel a buzz, a single person could fit in each leg rung of the device. The fractional ownership app Collectable includes a gloved individual holding it up for the camera, the gloves are standard for holding any item of value that they offer fractional ownership of in the interest of preservation. The man and myth was 7 feet 4 inches tall and weighed a hefty 520 lbs. The initial offering cap was $29,000.00 and was last seen to have a value of $20,300.00.

The Jock Strap is described by Collectible as worn by Andre the Giant during his illustrious wrestling career, along with a waist size of just under 60 inches. There can’t be too many of these that have been available for purchase.

Collectors Dashboard evaluates collectibles as an alternative asset class. Despite the odd-ball imaginations that may come up, personal garments fit within this theme. True sports collectors and hobbyists have a passion to own certain memorabilia, but investors are only looking for a profit. This keeps collectors and investors in a constant battle for who can win in auctions. Michael Jordan items come up for auction much more frequently than items about Andre the Giant.

Michael Jordan’s boxer shorts are being auctioned by Lelands on September 25, 2021 with a reserve price of $500.00. The undergarment came to the possession of Michael Jordan’s one-time bodyguard John Michael Wozniak who can be seen in the documentary “The Last Dance” beating Michael in a game of coin-toss. Also up for sale are coats, suits, ties, and golf clubs that once belonged to the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) basketball player.

The Leland’s auction is rather large with well over 1,000 lots. On top of this unique offering, there are many sports cards and other clothing items up for grabs too. All in, there are 250 Michael Jordan items.

With all these other items for sale, maybe the underwear can be considered part of an entire outfit of Michael Jordan’s rather than just a unique sort of auction we haven’t seen before. Still, many collectibles get an increased value based on scarcity. There can’t be too many auctions for used underwear and fractional ownership of famous jockstraps.
