Is the New Alfred Giraud Whisky from France Worthy as an Investment?

Whisky pairs well with grey skies and winter landscapes. November is an entire month dedicated to staying warm and perhaps enjoying some warming beverages and libations. Alfred Giraud has bottled the unique flavors of France in whisky form to do it with. Described as daring and innovative in its press release, Alfred Giraud Voyage French Malt Whisky is coming to the United States for the first time. That begs the question — invest, drink, or ponder?

The presentation looks like it is made for investment. Its description sounds enticing enough that many would-be investors will succumb to the temptation to consume it.

This is the first release in the companies Giraud Exploratory Range which is to be a series of rare limited whiskies that will be created by blending the finest single malts in rare and distinctive woods sourced from all over France by the Giraud family.

A suggested retail price of $180.00 will be the first sight for whisky collectors in what Alfred Giraud has said to be select U.S. markets beginning November 2021. The entire worldwide release is limited to just five casks.

Collectors Dashboard evaluates high-end collectibles as an alternative asset class. This means collectibles are attracting the same capital that could have been invested into stocks or bonds. Whether or not this fits the bill remains to be determined, but the bottle’s beauty and the class act of a roll-out strongly suggest that this Alfred Giraud Voyage French Malt Whisky may actually be a selective target for whisky investors similar to the top Japanese whisky.

According to the Giraud family press release:

“We are thrilled to bring the first of our Exploratory Range, VOYAGE, to our audience of discerning whisky enthusiasts in the United States,” says Philippe Giraud, fifth generation GIRAUD family member and first-generation proprietor of Alfred GIRAUD French Malt Whisky. “This series represents the Giraud family’s dedication to innovation and craftsmanship, highlighting our finest single malts matured in distinctive and unusual casks not usually seen in whisky aging, with exciting results. We are so proud to introduce this beautiful expression of distinctly French Whisky, crafted from the precise, expert eye of our Cellar Masters Georges Clot and Gaetan Mariolle.”

The description of flavors found in each bottle might truly make any would-be whisky hear this bottle whispering their name to come have just one sample of it. The flavor profile was described below:

“Cellar Masters Georges Clot and Gaetan Mariolle reach the perfect balance by marrying two of the best French single malts, one leaning on fruity notes and the other on cereal notes. Each is matured in casks with bold characteristics: new French Robinia casks, a powerful and rare wood found locally in France imparting strong white floral notes, and Sauternes wine casks sourced from nearby French producers bestowing sweet matured grape notes. The whisky sees its final aging in ex-cognac casks before bottling.”

With a natural color, the nose is said to bring white flower, custard, and honey and then balanced with black currant and ripe grapes. Its palate is described as soft and round with a sophisticated sweetness all balanced out by a bold structure.

Many collectors know the wines and champagne of France. Here is an opportunity to try the Whisky from the same region. In many ways the wine has influenced the whisky because of the barrels the Giraud family has sourced. The best of both worlds is a cliche but a new whisky arriving from France is news for all whisky collectors. Collectors Dashboard looks forward to reviewing all the Giraud Exploratory Range rare and limited whiskies that follow Voyage.
