Key Personal Lou Brock Items (Like His HOF Ring) Up for Grabs

Lou Brock might as well be royalty in the city of St. Louis. The fact that Brock started his career in Chicago was nothing compared to the accomplishments from his his 15 (and two-thirds) full seasons. After his passing in 2020, there are many key items that were personally owned by Lour Brock which are being sold in auction through Heritage Auctions as the Lou Brock Collection.

Lou’s career was quite impressive. On top of having 3,023 hits and a .293 lifetime batting average, Brock had 900 runs batted in and an even more impressive 938 stolen bases. That stolen base record was ultimately broken by Rickey Henderson, but it helped Brock become a shoe-in for the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

Heritage Auctions has many key rings owned by Lou Brock, including his Hall of Fame induction ring. There are many key items here which would will easily fit within the them of high-end collectibles being an alternative asset class. There is a reason that Lou Brock is featured among the Top 10 Rookie Cards of the 1960s.

Heritage Auctions is featuring the Lou Brock Collection in its November 18 to November 20 Fall Sports Auction (2021). Items like rings are collectibles which often only come up for sale posthumously. This is a quick review of some of Lou Brock’s key personal items up for auction.

  • 2004 St. Louis Cardinals National League Championship Ring Presented to Lou Brock with a current bid of $4,300.00 and 15 days left. The ring is estimated at $15,000+ according to Heritage Auctions.
  • 2013 St. Louis Cardinals National League Championship Ring Presented to Lou Brock with a current bid of $3,100.00 and 15 days left. The ring is estimated at $10,000+ according to Heritage Auctions.
  • 2012 College Baseball Hall of Fame Ring Presented to Lou Brock with a current starting bid of $500.00 and 15 days left. The ring is estimated at $2,000.00+ according to Heritage Auctions.
  • 2012 Jackie Robinson Lifetime Achievement Legacy Award Presented to Lou Brock with a current bid of $310.00 and 15 days left. The award is included with a letter of provenance from Jacqueline Brock. The award is estimated to at $1,000+ according to Heritage Auctions.

The Lou Brock Collection makes its debut in the second session which is exactly 15 days away on Friday November 19th, 2021.

Other personal effects of Lou Brock may not be traditional memorabilia, but items like this are not unique for posthumous auctions. Two watches stood out for sale:

  • 1990’s Lou Brock Personally Owned Movado Watch, which includes the original signed case and “HOF 85” inscription. Opening bid is $250.00 for the watch and the estimate is $1,000.00+ according to Heritage Auctions.
  • 1990’s Lou Brock Personal Wittnauer Watches Lot of 2. The brand Wittnauer was known to match his sense of style and a letter of provenance from Jacueline Brock is included. The current bid for the watch is $250.00 and the estimate is $1,000.00 according to Heritage Auctions.

Perhaps most intriguing to some of the die-hard Lou Brock fans in St. Louis would be a Lou Brock personal license plate from the 2010’s. According to Heritage Auctions, the Missouri plate has “HOF 85” personalized and was used by Brock for years. “2013” and “2017” stickers appear.” The license plate has a current bid of $210.00 and an estimate of $500.00+.

Personalized items are in many cases 1 0f 1 in scarcity. A ring for induction to the HOF is intimate and highly collectible, imagine owning the guys daily driver license plate?

Lou Brock’s personal items do not come up for sale that often. eBay sells many graded Lou Brock cards to vintage baseball card collectors each month. Heritage sold an early 1970s glove used by Brock in games, landing some $5,520.00 in 2020. A 1973 Brock game-used signed jersey sold through Heritage in 2010 for $5,078.75. They also sold a 1970 game-used and signed bat for $5,040.00 in 2019.
