Metacask Blends NFT with $2+ Million Ultra-Rare 1991 Macallan Cask

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are still confusing to many people. The flip-side is that many people are getting rich off of buying, selling and creating these NFTs. Some are very straightforward. Others are a bit more challenging to describe.

Metacask, which calls itself the marketplace for whisky cask NFTs, has a new auction called The Angel’s Share NFT. This is a physical cask of 1991 Macallan Whisky, which is said to be valued above $2 million, and a Trevor Jones original work of art. Metacask is registered as CaskStore AG in Switzerland.

‘The Angel’s Share’ auction is set to take place from October 18 to October 22 (2021). The unique (1/1) digital painting from Trevor Jones is said to be inspired “by the cask, distillery and Scotland’s robust whisky heritage.”

The NFT will serve as a digital title of deed for the ultra-rare cask, which is currently stored at the Macallan distillery in Scotland.

According to Metcask’s press release, The $2 million and up valuation would be a new record. The group shows that a $573,000 sale of a whisky cask sold was set a month earlier another 1991 Macallan cask via Bonhams in Hong Kong.

Metacask announced its launch over the summer of 2021 as the future of whisky investment. The group’s partnering with Trevor Jones is among the top NFT artists in the world, and the artist has already commanded multi-million NFT prices. Metacask even noted that Jones is among the top-five all time for any NFT artist.

After the sale of ‘The Angel’s Share’ cask and NFT, Metacask plans to begin its first series of whisky cask NFT auctions on its marketplace starting in November. Pre-registration for those auctions will open October 25.

Having a combination of whisky and NFTs may sound unique or puzzling. This is actually not the first and only effort that has blended alcoholic beverages and NFTs.
