The Rise of Tom Brady Ticket Stubs

Sports collectibles is not just limited to sports cards. There are autographs, jerseys, equipment, and many other items. One aspect of the market that has started getting more attention of late is the “game ticket” market. Tickets to key games like the Super Bowl and World Series have of course always had a special place for collectors. There has been a rising interest in very specific game tickets beyond just the Super Bowl — and tickets tied to Tom Brady are of course high on the list.

Collectors know that rookie cards are valuable, but what do most people with their game tickets right after the enter the stadium?

“THE BEGINNING”

One such ticket that just recently sold was a Ticketmaster version of the game where Tom Brady replaced Drew Bledsoe as quarterback for the New England Patriot. This ticket recently sold for $44,400.00 at Goldin.co. While a ticket from Ticketmaster is not very attractive, what made this ticket so attractive was that it has Tom Brady’s signature — and it also has “THE BEGINNING” inscription. GET READY FOR FRACTIONAL!

There is another upcoming sale from the fractional ownership platform Collectable and it had been given an early access view. This fractional ownership is being offered in shares and the initial public offering (IPO) is a ticket stub from Tom Brady’s debut game on November 23, 2000. The market cap at $10.00 per share is stated as $107,750 and the owner of the ticket will retain a $10,000 equity stake in the asset. This IPO date will be known soon.

This ticket (image below off the Collectable app) is graded as PSA 7 and Collectable’s report says that there is only 1 PSA 7 that exists and only 1 example that has a higher grade. Collectable also referred back to a November 2021 ticket sale that was $144,000.00 for a ticket to Brady’s first touchdown pass game.

EBAY HAS A PIECE OF BRADY!

On January 6, eBay sold a Tom Brady Signed 2002 Super Bowl (XXXVI) Green ticket that graded PSA/DNA 9 AUTO for a price of $5,800.00 after 102 bids. Another nearly identical ticket with the same grade, but a different certification number also sold for $5,800,00 after 41 bids back on November 2, 2021. Another similar sale was seen for $5,700.00 on December 9, 2021. All three of those ticket sales were from seller “Probstein123” on eBay.

Another interesting ticket that sold on eBay was a college ticket of Brady. This was Tom Brady’s first NCAA college football debut game. he ticket stub is for Michigan in 1996 and was 1996 PSA VC 3. It sold for $1,375.00 after 34 bids by seller “magicsports” on November 11, 2021.

HERITAGE HAS A PIECE TOO!

Heritage Auction also has a Tom Brady debut game ticket coming up for auction on February 4, 2022. This is listed as “2000 Tom Brady Professional Debut Ticket Stub (Patriots vs. Lions)” and it is graded PSA 9 (Mint). That image is not yet available, but Heritage placed a guide value/estimate of “$20,000 – up” on the ticket. Here are some other past Tom Brady ticket sales that have been tracked:

  • 1998 Michigan vs. Notre Dame Ticket Stub – Tom Brady 1st Collegiate Start, PSA NM-MT 8 Highest Graded! sold for $2,520.00 on August 22, 2021.
  • 2001 New England Patriots vs. Indianapolis Colts Full Ticket – Tom Brady’s First Start & Win, PSA NM-MT 8 sold for $1,980.00 on February 23, 2020.

RETROSPECT

People who attend key games know that they should save tickets to a World Series or to a Super Bowl. That said, what do most people do with regular game tickets that they just attend and had no idea ahead of time that the game was going to be a key game in history? If the ticket is lucky it will end up in a purse, but more often than that they are shoved into someone’s jacket pocket or pant pocket and it is mangled.

The rise of electronic tickets is also going to greatly alter how tickets are collected in the future. Will these all turn into NFTs or will tickets simply vanish only to be remembered if you snap a screen capture photo?
