Will Collectors Chase Up The Matrix Resurrections PSR MTX Watch from Hamilton?

Blending movies and watches is not a new concept at all. Just ask James Bond fans and Omega watch fans. The new reboot of The Matrix with Keanu Reeves is about to bring on a new watch to boot. Hamilton Watch is releasing a limited edition Hamilton PSR MTX with upcoming The Matrix Resurrections film.

Some people buy watches to wear as a timepiece. Others buy them solely to collect. Watch collectors have an interesting place within the collectibles industry. After all, it is not all that easy to go buy a watch at the retail level, after the distributor and retailer mark-ups, after the sales tax, and with an idea that they might have a collectible that others will one day pay close to the same price for. Then again, not every collector is out just to make a profit on their collectibles.

The PSR MTX is a limited edition of just 1999 pieces and the price of 995 Swiss Franc currently translates to about $1,082.00 in United States dollars.

The press release said:

“From visionary filmmaker Lana Wachowski comes “The Matrix Resurrections,” the long-awaited fourth film in the groundbreaking franchise that redefined a genre. The new film reunites original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in the iconic roles they made famous, Neo and Trinity.”

Collectors Dashboard evaluates high-end collectibles as an alternative asset class. This means collectibles are attracting the same capital that could have been invested into stocks or bonds. Many collectibles now cost thousands of dollars (or much more). Will a $1,000+ limited edition (1999 examples only) bring bidding wars ahead between collectors and investors after the supply is gone? That remains to be seen.

Here’s what’s being released by Hamilton:

  • Case: 40.8×34.7mm stainless steel with black PVD coating
  • Thickness: 13.30mm
  • Lug width: 24mm
  • Dial: Green LCD & OLED hybrid display
  • Movement: Digital quartz
  • Bracelet: Stainless steel bracelet with black PVD coating
  • Glass: Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating

The announcement welcomes collectors to join the ranks of Neo, Trinity, Morpheus with the PSR MTX Digital Quartz limited edition watch. What is not limited edition is the American Classic PSR Digital Quartz which is stainless steel, and its price is also lower than the limited edition PSR MTX watch.

For collectors of high-end watches “limited edition” is a valued term. For fans and enthusiasts of The Matrix movie franchise the watch is a must have. Hamilton was revolutionary 100 years ago making pocket watches and it’s exciting as a collector to see its adaptation with a film based in a digital world.
