Another great car auction has come and gone, and it is undeniable that 2022 is off to a very strong start in the collector car market. Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale Auction was said to be the most successful event for the collector car market in its 50-year history.
The biggest sale items of course came from the collectible vehicles. That came to $195.9 million after 1,857 vehicles sold. These were all no-reserve sales and Barrett-Jackson also claimed a 100% sell-through rate. The portion of the auction dedicated to “Automobilia” in no-reserve actions was also its strongest ever.
According to Barrett-Jackson’s press release, a total of 1,153 automobilia pieces sold for more than $7.3 million. That record-shattering automobilia auction included extremely rare Disney pieces. It also set a new world auction record for a neon sign (see Ford Jubilee below, image by Barrett-Jackson).
Barrett-Jackson’s top five automobilia pieces that sold at Scottsdale events were the following lots:
1953 Ford Jubilee Neon Porcelain Sign (Lot #9491, world auction record for a neon sign) – SOLD FOR $460,000
1950s to Early 1960s Disneyland Donald Duck Ride (Lot #9488.1, world auction record for a kiddie ride) – SOLD FOR $172,500
1940s-50s Mobil Oil Neon Porcelain Sign (Lot #9495.2) – SOLD FOR $161,000
1930s Kelly Tires Sign (Lot #9470) – SOLD FOR $155,250
1940s Greyhound Bus Lines Tin Sign with Animated Neon (Lot #8492.4) – SOLD FOR $149,500

The strongest collector car event, with the strongest collector car sales ever (100% sell-thru) and the strongest automobilia auction records… It seems 2022 is undeniably off to a strong start.
