The world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) keeps expanding. Celebrities have followed artist-release NFTs, as have musicians and toy-makers. And speaking of entertainers, there is about to be a release of NFTs tracking the newest attempt of the Dune film.

The release of Dune: Future Artifacts is the digital NFT collection coming around the fall release of Dune. Legendary Entertainment has a collaboration with iv gallery, Lineage Studios and with MakersPlace for a September 22, 2021 release of the official Dune NFT collection.

The collection is said to include artifacts capturing humanity’s “future history” and portraits of iconic characters. These are shown to include characters from House Atreides and House Harkonnen, as well as sculptures and artifacts of Arrakis. These include the following:

• Two editions of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet),
• Chani (Zendaya),
• Baron Vladimir Harkkonen (Stellan Skarsgård),
• Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson),
• Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa),
• and Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac).

Each work will also include composed music excerpts from composer Hans Zimmer. The press release for Dune movie-themed NFTs also noted an Expanded Collection with drop dates in the coming weeks with dates to-be-announced.

Frank Herbert’s 1965 release of Dune was followed by several sequels. Those books then saw multiple attempts to get the classic books into film. A 1980s movie with bad graphics and worm-riders was followed by a televised mini-series on Sci-Fi as well as a later Children of Dune. None have been able to expand beyond those efforts.
