Owning a Wilt Chamberlain 100-Point Game Ticket Stub

Owning a Wilt Chamberlain rookie is a feat for many vintage basketball collectors. But owning a ticket from Wilt Chamberlain’s magical 100-point game is nearly an impossible feat for most collectors. The reality is that even the scarce cards from that era are quite large in populations when compared to the ticket stubs of the same era. And the way tickets were made back in the day they were not very impressive to look at and to hold on to by most fans.

Now a recently graded example of Chamberlain’s 100-point game is listed on Clean Sweep Auctions. The PSA certification number of 64,555,263 indicates it is a recent grading submission (which has also been confirmed by Clean Sweep below). PSA’s certification statement also notes that the graded population with the “A” grade is just 11 tickets, and it says that there are just 12 examples with higher grades. Here is a population comparison — the PSA Cardfacts site shows that there are more than 1,900 graded examples of Chamberlain’s recognized rookie card (and more than 1,100 of his In-Action rookie card by Fleer) that have been graded by PSA alone!

Chamberlain’s 100-points against the New York Knicks is undeniable the most impressive single-game performance for any single basketball game in the sport’s history. It would be like a a single batter in baseball racking up 4 or 5 grand slams in a single game. This record has also held up for some 60 years. Any memorabilia from Chamberlain’s performance in this special game is both scarce and desirable to vintage collectors.

PSA’s auction price tracker did not find any auction prices for this certification number. Some alternative pricing data has been shown below.

Lot #1 had more than 6 hours to go before the close of the auction. The auction started at a $5,000.00 price after 15 bids the last bidding price was $17,500.00 for this stellar ticket. Image below by Clean Sweep Auctions.

Wilt Chamb

According to Clean Sweep:

The game took place in Hershey, Pennsylvania before a much smaller crowd that would normally attend a home Knicks or 76ers game, creasing a great scarcity for tickets. Fresh to the hobby, this was submitted to PSA over the summer and ran us a tidy $3,000 to get in the holder! The partial stub is larger than others that have traded. We asked PSA why it did not receive a numerical grade and they felt that it was cut of something larger, which we do not believe to be true. Either way, the promenade ticket has very light creasing, good color and a clean back. This has typical wear at the bottom border. An extremely significant item, with the current white-hot market for tickets from signature sporting events, this should be considered almost a Mount Everest-like piece for any advanced ticket collector!
